Artist Jeff Tarr was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1957 and raised in Winchester, Kentucky. His love of painting and expressive style first became apparent even at the age of 4 when he freely embellished the images of his paint by numbers set.
Always know as the “artistic one” throughout grade school, Jeff went on to study fine art at the University of Kentucky and soon transferred to the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver where he received an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Art.
Upon graduating, Jeff worked as a designer for Mountain Bell and then returned Kentucky where he continues his study of graphic design and photography two more years at the University of Louisville.
Jeff Moved to Manatee County, Florida in 1986 where like to say he found his true calling as a head waiter while studying print making at Manatee Community College.
While at MCC, Jeff moved out to the beach on Anna Maria Island where he was inspired to begin painting large format oils on canvas and developed his current definitive, highly colorful, expressive contemporary realist style.
Jeff’s original paintings and commissions are popular among local West Coast Florida collectors. Giclee prints of his recent “Fish School” series can be viewed at Equinox Gallery in Towles Court, Sarasota and ArtSource Studio.
